Statements Of Distinguished Personalities Concerning Durood Shareef
1. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique (radi Allahu anhu) said, “The reading of the Durood Shareef obliterates sins as water obliterates fire. To read the Salaam for the Pleasure of Almighty Allah is more lofty than freeing a slave. To love Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is superior than waging Jihad or facing Shahadah in Jihad”. (Al Qolul Badi)
2. Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha) has said, “The beauty of any gathering is to read the Durood Shareef. Therefore, beautify your gatherings. Durood Shareef is also a path to Jannah”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
3. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Ma’sood (radi Allahu anhu) is once reported to have advised Sayyiduna Zaid bin Wahab (radi Allah anhu) that, “When the Day of Jummah arrives do not refrain from reading a thousand Durood Shareefs”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
4. Sayyiduna Huzaifah (radi Allahu anhu) said, “The reading of Durood Shareef bestows upon the reciter, his children and their children the spirit of Faith (Imaan)”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
5. Sayyiduna Umar bin Abdul Aziz (alaihir rahmah) is reported to have commanded the Muslims to impart Islamic Knowledge and increase the reading of the Durood Shareef on the day of Jummah. (Al Qolul Badi)
6. Sayyiduna Imam Jafer Saadiq (alaihir rahmah) has stated, “On Thursday at the time of Asar, Almighty Allah orders the Malaa’ikah of the Heavens to descend. They possess pens of gold and pages of silver. They remain on the earth till the sunset of Friday and record the names of all those who have read the Durood Shareef”. (Al Qolul Badi)
7. Sayyiduna Imam Shaafi’e (alaihir rahmah) has stated, “I consider the reading of the Durood Shareef in abundance at all times as an exalted action”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
8. Sayyiduna ibn Numaan (alaihir rahmah), the son of Imam ‘Azam (alaihir rahmah), has stated that, “It is the unanimous verdict of the Learned Ulema that the reading of the Durood Shareef is the most supreme deed among all deeds”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
9. Sayyiduna Allama Hulaimi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “To honour Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the path of Imaan. The status of reverence is much loftier than affection. Therefore, as we have affection of our parents, children and friends, we should have a much loftier degree of reverence for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)”.
He then proceeded to quote from the Quran and Ahadith and stated further, “This was the practise of the Sahaba for they had witnessed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) with their very own eyes. Among the ethics of our times is that whenever we hear or see the name of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), we read the Durood Shareef”.
He has stated further, “Even the Malaa’ikah send Durood and Salaam upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) to gain the closeness of the Almighty Allah. We who are the best of creation should read the Durood Shareef in abundance, so that we also gain the closeness of the Almighty Allah”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
10. Sayyiduna Qutbe Rabbani, Sayed Abdul Qaadir Jilaani (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “O Muslims! Make the action of visiting the House of Almighty Allah (Masjid) and the recital of the Durood Shareef compulsory upon yourselves”. (Fath-ur Rabbani)
11. Sayyiduna Aarif Saawi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “Durood Shareef is the Wazifa which can accomplish for the seeker closeness to Almighty Allah even without a Spiritual Guide. The Satan can mislead one if one recites other Wazifas without a Spiritual Guide. But a man cannot be misguided by reading the Durood Shareef as the Spiritual Guide at that time is Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). When this is the case, the Satan has no chance of misleading the reciter”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
12. Sayyiduna Allama Haafiz Shamsudeen Sakhaawi (alaihir rahmah) has recorded the following statements attributed to various eminent Mashaa’ikh.
a. The excellent route on the path of Imaan is the recital of the Durood Shareef.
b. If one intends to show gratitude for the Divine rewards that has been bestowed, then the best manner of doing this is to read the Durood Shareef. Many gifts which we have received are also through the generosity of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam).
c. We should increase the recitation of Durood Shareef because Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is our means of achieving success in the Hereafter. (Sadaatud Daarain)
13. Sayyiduna Allama Uqlaishi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “Which is that deed which can be a means of entering Jannah and makes a person achieve great benefit? It is indeed the recital of the Durood Shareef! The Durood Shareef is a magnificent light and a trade which has no loss. The distinguished Saints have made this their daily practice. Therefore, O Seeker, hold firm to the Durood Shareef. Through it, your encounters will become clean, your deeds will become pure and your wishes will be granted. Through the Durood Shareef you will also be safe from the agony of Qiyamah”. (Al Qolul Badi)
14. Sayyiduna Allama Iraaqi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “O Seeker! Increase the recital of the Durood Shareef upon the Leader of all leaders. The Durood Shareef saves one from great calamities and achieves for one great blessings. Through the recital of a single Durood Shareef, you will receive ten Blessings from Almighty Allah and ten of your sins will be forgiven. You will also increase in status ten times and the Malaa’ikah will plead for your forgiveness”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
15. Sayyiduna Aarif Billah, Imam She’raani (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “We have indeed taken a pledge with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) that:
a. We will increase our recital of the Durood Shareef,
b. We will show the Muslim Ummah the blessings to be achieved by the Durood Shareef,
c. We will impress upon the Muslim Ummah to show love and reverence as is shown in the Durood Shareef,
d. We will show the Muslim Ummah the person that who reads a thousand or ten thousand Durood Shareefs has performed the best of deeds,
e. The reciter of the Durood Shareef should try to be with Wudhu and read with heart and soul,
f. The Durood Shareef is the means of achieving the closeness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). No creation has been given so much of authority and power as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), and
g. That the creation will begin to love the reciter of the Durood Shareef”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
16. Sayyiduna Abul Abbas Tijaani (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “The recital of the Durood Shareef is the key to all good. It is the key to the Unseen and to Spiritual Knowledge. Therefore, he who serves himself from the Durood Shareef serves himself from all good. He will not achieve closeness to Almighty Allah”. It is also reported that when he once wrote a letter to a Mureed, he advised the Mureed, “The Zikr which is the most advantageous is that Zikr whose fruit is most sweet and whose effect is most rewarding. Such a Zikr is the recital of the Durood Shareef. The recital of the Durood Shareef achieves for the reciter a most potent force and it dispels all evil. It is for this reason that one who has increased his recital of the Durood Shareef has invariably become a friend of Almighty Allah”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
17. Sayyiduna Imamul Muhaditheen, Allama Qastalaani (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “The greatest, most magnificent, most generous, most sublime, most excellent and most distinguished Zikr is the recital of Durood Shareef”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
18. Shah Abdur Raheem (alaihir rahmah), the father of Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddis Dehlwi (radi Allah anhu), has stated that, “Whatever I have achieved, be it in this world or in the Hereafter, has been through the Barakah of the Durood Shareef”. (Al Qolul Jameel)
19. Sayyiduna Shaikh Ali Khawwas (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “He who desires any wish or need should read the Durood Shareef a thousand times with utmost concentration and then make Du’a to Almighty Allah. Insha-Allah, he will achieve his objective”. (Hujjatul laahi alal Aalameen)
20. Sayyiduna Allama Yusuf bin Ismail Nabhaani (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “If a person reads the following Durood Shareef 300 times daily and at times of difficulty and anxiety he reads it a thousand times, then this Durood Shareef will ease one’s difficulty and anxiety, ‘As Saalatu was Saalamu alaika Ya Sayyidi Ya Rasoolallahu sallal laahu alaika wasallam’”. 21. Sayyiduna Shaikh Abdul Aziz Taqee’uddeen (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “The best of all the Nafil worship is the reading of the Durood Shareef”. (Nuzhatun Naazireen)
22. Shah Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi (alaihir rahmah) at the beginning of the book “Akhbaarul Akhyaar” pleads to Almighty Allah in the following manner, “O Allah! I do not possess any deed worthy for Your Court. All my deeds are permeated with sin and bad intention aside from one, which is the action of standing in utmost respect and reverence and reading the Durood and Salaam upon Your Beloved Habeeb, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). I have no doubt that the Durood and the Salaam will be accepted as in Your Infinite Mercy. You would not refuse to accept it”. (Akhbaarul Akhyaar)
23. Sayyiduna Khwaja Hassan Basri (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “He who desires to drink in abundance from the Fountain of Kauther should read the following Durood Shareef, ‘Allhumma salli ala Muhammadiw wa aalihi wa ashabihi wa azwajihi wa awladihi wa zurriyaatihi wa ahli baytihi wa amhaarahu wa ansaarihi wa ashyaa’ihi wa majislihi wa alaynaa ma ahum ajma’eena Ya arhamar Raahimeen’”.
24. Sayyiduna Abdul Aziz Dabbaag (alaihir rahmah) was one day asked the reason for Jannah becoming spacious through the reading of the Durood Shareef. He replied, “Simply because Jannah itself has been created from the Noor of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)”. (Ibreeze Shareef)
25. Sayyiduna Allam Faasi (alaihir rahmah), the author of “Mutaali’ul Musarraat”, has stated that, “Almighty Allah has made the Durood Shareef as a means of achieving His closeness. Therefore, he who increases the Durood Shareef will achieve an elevated status and closeness to Almighty Allah. His daily activities will unfold in an agreeable manner. His sins will be forgiven. Noor will overtake his countenance and his heart will become illuminated”. (Mutaali’ul Musarraat)
26. Sayyiduna Allama Ismail Haqqi (alaihir rahmah), author of “Tafseer Ruhul Bayaan”, has stated that, “The Saints have advised that those who desire repentance should adopt humility in their actions and increase the recital of the Duroood Shareef. We should also remember that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the best of intercessors and mediums for it is through his medium that Nabi Adam’s (alaihis salaam) plea was accepted”. 27. Sayyiduna Mulla Mu’een Kaashifi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “Almighty Allah is non-reliant upon the creation yet, He in His infinite Mercy, also sends Blessings upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). It is for this reason that Muslims should read as much Durood Shareef and Salaams as possible as they are reliant on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)”. (Ma’aarijun Nubuwah)
28. Sayyiduna Imam Fakhrudeen Raazi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “The command upon man to read Durood Shareef is because man’s soul is weak. By reading Durood Shareef it will become strong enough to witness the Noor of Almighty Allah. By reading Durood Shareef, a Muslim’s heart becomes engrossed in the Noor of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). It is through this Noor that he is able to witness the Noor of Almighty Allah. For this reason Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated that the closest to him on the Day of Qiyamah will be those who read the Durood Shareef in abundance”. (Ma’aarijun Nubuwah)
29. Sayyiduna Kaab Ashaabi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “Verily no day passes without 70 thousand Angels presenting themselves at Masjid-un Nabawi and busy themselves all the time with recitation of Durood Shareef and Salaam. When evening arrives, they return towards the Heavens. This procession of Malaa’ikah continues daily and will continue till Qiyamah. On the Day of Qiyamah, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) will arrive with 70 thousand Malaa’ikah and proceed towards the plain of Mehshar”.
30. Sayyiduna Imam She’raani (alaihir rahmah) was asked about the minimum and maximum number of Durood Shareefs to be read. He replied, “There is no minimum or maximum number in this respect. However, what is important is that one should read Durood Shareef with such intensity that he is able to witness the Blessed Countenance of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) as Sayyiduna Imam Jalaaludeen Suyutwi (radi Allahu anhu) had done on seventy five occasions while he was still awake”. 31. Sayyiduna Shaikh-e-Akbar, Shaikh Mo’inudeen ibn Arabi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that, “Those who claim to love and revere Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) should increase their recital of the Durood Shareef in patience and perseverance until, through the Mercy of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), they have the opportunity of witnessing his Blessed Countenance”.
